President’s Report
Welcome to the 2020 President’s Report for the Wanganui Amateur Radio Society Inc.
WOW!! That was 2020, and what an interesting year it has been!!
What did 2020 bring? COVID-19; No overseas travel, a benefit for me; Kaharoa Road link site activated; Club meetings by video and 690; WiFi link activated to Maewa, with a Flight Radar 24 receiver installed.
Having the Kaharoa Road link in place has certainly brought more conversations to the local repeaters. Talking of conversations, when New Zealand was in full lockdown there were a lot more amateurs on the bands, it was awesome to hear. Having the ability to join on the the Branch 87 and Branch 27 nets is also a bonus of the Kaharoa Road link.
Our friends at Branch 20 have been active again this year. Having the weekly catchup on Zoom was a great idea.
A few club members have been playing with digital radios, DMR and D-Star. Perhaps what we need to do in 2021 is get some digital repeaters up and running. Should we add a digital option to 690?
We did not have any new members join this year but I am feeling confident that we can grow the club, we just need to be more proactive.
So that’s about it. Short and sweet. Summer is just around the corner so let’s see if we, as a club, can get out more. As I am not travelling at this time, it would be great to organise some sort of field day, i.e. a day in a field with radios. What about the Field Day Contest on December 5th 2020?
So thank you for your support of the year, let’s see what we can do over the next 12 months!
I wish you all the best for the coming year.
